Introduction

Dr. Mark S. Lipton specializes in the treatment and prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases, and is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. He has also been elected to Fellowship in the American College of Cardiology in 1985. His clinical interests include general internal medicine, preventive cardiology, cardiac risk factor management, and the treatment and diagnosis of both coronary and valvular heart disease. His approach to medical practice blends both evidence-based treatments for established disease with wellness promotion through proactive risk-factor intervention and lifestyle modification. Dr. Lipton is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Leon H. Charney Division of Cardiology at the NYU School of Medicine. He is active in teaching, research, and patient care at the NYU Langone Medical Center, where he has served in several leadership positions including Chief Medical Officer, Chairman of the Quality Improvement Committee, Director of Clinical Informatics, and he served as the Chairman of the Medical Board from 2002 to 2003. He has received recognition by several publications, and has repeatedly been included in the New York Magazine “The Best Doctors" list, Castle & Connolly’s list of “Top Doctors", and the New York Times list of “Leading Physicians." Dr. Lipton was born and raised in New York City, where he went to public schools, and attended the Bronx High School of Science. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, receiving a BA in Chemistry Cum Laude and with distinction in all subjects. He attended NYU School of Medicine, receiving his MD degree in 1978, being elected to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. Dr. Lipton completed internship and residency in the NYU Bellevue Hospital Medical Residency program, and later completed fellowship training at NYU Langone Medical Center in 1985 following a two year service engagement in the National Health Service. Dr. Lipton enjoys skiing, tennis, and has an abiding interest in the application of computer technology to improve medical care.
