Introduction

Dr. Spiegel began his career modeling nerve fiber action potentials at the NYU Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences. He then went to the NYU Grossman School of Medicine where he spent a year researching spinal alignment, spine related therapies and health-related quality of life outcomes. During his training at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Dr. Spiegel treated numerous demographic cohorts while rotating through NYU Tisch Hospital, Bellevue Hospital and the Manhattan VA. Dr. Spiegel completed his anesthesia residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he rotated frequently through the renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Dr. Spiegel concluded his formal training with an interventional pain fellowship at Northwell Health and The Spine & Pain Institute of New York. Most recently, Dr. Spiegel has spent his time as co-Director of interventional pain at NuHealth/Nassau University Medical Center, expanding the program, teaching residents and serving the community. Throughout this time, Dr. Spiegel has volunteered at or rotated through numerous other hospitals including the Mt Sinai Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian/Methodist and the Winthrop University Hospital. Accordingly, Dr. Spiegel is not only a well-qualified physician, but additionally he knows well the NYC medical climate including its clinicians and diverse patient population. Dr. Spiegel continues his academic fervor throughout, always pushing the field of interventional pain management ever forward. His clinical research covers numerous topics ranging from perioperative outcomes, spinal alignment, intrathecal dose delivery systems and to the ever-evolving realm of neuromodulation. More recently, Dr. Spiegel advanced a novel method for dorsal root ganglion stimulation deployment and implantation. Dr. Spiegel is published in numerous peer reviewed journals and textbooks. He continues to present his work at national and international conferences and receives accolades for his research and teachings. Today, Dr. Spiegel focuses on the treatment of debilitating low back and neck pain, particularly as caused by spinal stenosis, arthritis, degenerative disc disease and refractory pain following spine surgery. Dr. Spiegel also has expertise in complex regional pain syndrome, refractory headaches, facial pain, abdominopelvic pain, cancer pain and more. Dr. Spiegel’s technical skills include ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided procedures such as epidural steroid injections, joint injections, and radiofrequency ablations. He is also experienced in more advanced procedures, such as spinal cord stimulation, vertebral augmentation, interspinous spacers, regenerative medicine and more. Dr. Spiegel works in close collaboration with his local colleagues including physiatrists, surgeons, internists, psychiatrists, orthopedist, neurologists and others, as he believes that adequate pain treatment involves a multifaceted understanding. Dr. Spiegel enjoys giving back to his community. He’s worked mentoring children through the Salk School of Science and he’s educated patients’ loved ones regarding opioid overdose prevention strategies through the Bellevue Detox Unit. Dr. Spiegel’s philosophy is that it’s not only how many years one lives, but that it’s crucial that they be good years. Dr. Spiegel obtains enormous satisfaction in leading his patients to better, pain free, tomorrows. In his free time Dr. Spiegel is an avid skier. Dr. Spiegel is also fluent in Hebrew and basic Spanish.
